The British Columbia Gaming Commission (BCLC) recently unveiled its yearly review, illuminating the progress made toward their ambitious 2030 objectives for environmental, societal, and governance (ESG) endeavors. The document, aptly named “Succeeding with Intention,” emphasizes how BCLC has integrated social accountability into the core of its operations throughout 2022/23. Their actions speak louder than words.
BCLC is exhibiting a genuine dedication to responsible gambling, reconciliation with First Nations communities, diversity and inclusivity, and ecological sustainability. For instance, they’ve enhanced their “Play Break” self-exclusion initiative, deepened their pledge to Indigenous reconciliation, and even initiated a strategy to attain net-zero carbon emissions. Remarkably, they’re accomplishing all of this while still generating over \$1.6 billion in net revenue for the province of British Columbia.
Jim Goodingson, BCLC’s Sustainability & Innovation Manager, summarized it perfectly: “This review narrates the tale of our purpose in motion and, significantly, how we are establishing numerous avenues to succeed for our patrons, our neighborhoods, and our world.”
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is implementing initiatives to foster a more inclusive and welcoming work environment. One such initiative is a “flexible holiday” program, allowing personnel to exchange statutory holidays for observances that hold personal significance.
Furthermore, BCLC has collaborated with entities like Instant Win Gaming to connect retail and digital gaming experiences. A recent illustration is the launch of “Set for Life” on their online platform, PlayNow.com, providing players in British Columbia and Manitoba a more cohesive gaming experience.
