The United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) halted a promotional campaign by Foxy Games because it insinuated that individuals could attain financial security through engaging in slots and bingo.
An individual lodged a complaint regarding a Foxy Games advertisement that appeared on Google when they conducted a search for “generate income online” in July 2020. The advertisement stated, “Generate Income Online – Foxy Games – Engage in Online Games.” The ASA concurred with the complainant that employing the phrase “generate income online” implied that individuals could acquire a dependable revenue stream through this method, which is deemed irresponsible.
Foxy Games acknowledged that the advertisement was an error and confirmed its removal, but the ASA proceeded to permanently prohibit its reappearance.
Intriguingly, the ASA did not express concerns about a comparable advertisement from Betfair. This television advertisement depicted a man placing wagers on his mobile device while hurrying to board a flight, accompanied by the slogan “There’s always an opportunity, there’s always Betfair.” A complaint was submitted alleging that the advertisement portrayed gambling as the paramount aspect of the man’s life, even when he was evidently pressed for time. Nevertheless, the ASA did not perceive the man as being particularly troubled by his gambling activities and did not deem the advertisement to be depicting gambling as an essential need.
